The Speak Out Kit (SOK) is a tool designed by ChildTRAC which encourages children to communicate how they feel about their world; to speak out about their current situation and wellbeing in a pressure-free environment. Presented as a game, the SOK invites the child to voice concerns or feelings they may have regarding their current situation without fear of judgement, reprimand or external influence.

The SOK has been designed to appeal to children visually and carefully planned questions will entice the child to express their opinions about family members, caregivers and locations frequented, using foam cut-outs to represent different people and places. The child will be asked to assign an emotion to each of these cut-outs which will provide trained staff with indicators necessary to assess the child’s circumstances and well-being. Specific training is necessary. ChildTRAC will not take any responsibility for persons or organizations for using the SOK without proper training.
